When Was The Saxophone Invented ?
Saxophone, also referred to as a sax, is a musical instrument belonging to woodwind family. It is basically made out of brass and is played in the same manner as a clarinet is played. This musical instrument was invented long back by a person called Adolphe Sax and this is the reason why it has been named a Saxophone. Adolphe Sax was an instrument maker, clarinetist and a flautist, and he used to work in Paris. He always wanted to invent a musical instrument that unlike clarinet could overblow at octave. This prompted him to invent the saxophone in the year 1841. |

Before developing saxophone, he already had made various improvements to clarinet and had worked a lot over its key-work, range and acoustics. He also made ophicleide, another musical instrument made out of brass. The making of these 2 instruments helped him a lot while he was trying to develop his first saxophone. He applied for its patent as he had created saxophones with variable sizes. He received the patent in the year 1846.
After the expiry of his patent in the year 1866, several other instrument makers imparted their own improvements to its design an also the key work. The first significant modification was incorporated by a manufacturer from France. He tried to slightly extend the bell and also added one extra key in order to extend its range. These changes were soon adopted in all the upcoming designs of saxophones. Several people tried bringing out their desired changes to its design but not all of them were accepted.
There are manufacturers who are still trying to bring about their own kinds of saxophones but the fact that saxophone was originally developed by Adolphe Sax is still afresh and the fact that this instrument is called by his name has made him immortal forever.
