The Classical time period refers to that specific time period during the course of history when music and art was grounded in certain traditions and styles which imparted a certain characteristic flavor.

Classical time period actually refers to the period between 1730 and 1820 AD and the music that was developed during this era was more organized and well-planned. It was both technically correct as well as pleasing to the ears.
Vienna, the capital of Austria, was considered as the abode of musical bustle during the Classical time period, and musicians and composers from far off places came to visit Vienna to learn music and start composing music based on their own chosen themes. As a result of the popularity of Vienna, a particular style of music was named after this place and the music style came to be known as the "Viennese Style".
During this era, musicians were employed to create music and melodious tunes. Music was written for the sake of creating virgin music. Melodious tunes were created in Classical style music during this period. Operas, with their fancy costumes and sets, had also become very popular during the Classical time period.
Apart from vocal singing, instruments were also used to create new tunes and music. A lot of importance was given to different kinds of instrumental music like the violin, which was chosen to play the main theme or melody. Many other instruments were also commonly used like the sonata, trio, string quartet, symphony, concerto, serenade and divertimento to create beautiful melodies and tunes.
Just like the Operas, even symphonies grew very popular during the classical time period. A symphony is an extended musical composition for an orchestra, usually involving several different types of instruments. It is actually a musical passage comprising of instrumental music in a musical vocal composition. With the growing popularity of the symphonies, the size of the symphony orchestra was bound to grow. The expanding size of the symphony orchestra required the involvement of more musicians and newer instruments. Composers were expected to create more complicated compositions, incorporating unique sounds from new instruments, which were never heard before, in order to attract the crowds.
Sonata form (musical pieces featuring one single instrument) was yet another musical form that had gained popularity since the beginning of the Classical time period. With the sonata, solo instruments like the keyboard and piano also gained immense popularity and more and more music lovers came ahead to learn these new forms of music.
